After a backstage introduction at a Mötley Crüe concert. The world of Rock N Roll and fashion collided when Nikki Sixx and Kelly Gray became creative consorts in their quest to initially fill a void in the men’s clothing industry, and then soon launched a women’s line within a year. The result: Royal Underground. Converging high-end fashion with rock star stage clothing that is sexy, modern, edgy, and luxurious; Royal Underground helps everyone tap into their inner Rock Star. Nikki Sixx is the bass player and songwriter for Mötley Crüe, and Sixx AM. One of the most successful Rock N Roll bands of all time, selling over 50 million records and performing on every continent. He is also a best-selling author and acclaimed artist and photographer. Nikki has always designed his own clothes, be that for the stage or his ‘regular’ life, and he brings an eclectic sense of style that had its genesis in his high school days, when he fused together looks as varied as punk, Goth and glam-rock. Just as he was determined for the world to someday hear his music, so was he determined to bring his dream of Royal Underground to fruition.

Kelly Gray was born into the fashion industry and began working at St. John, the company founded by her parents in 1962, at the young age of 12. Starting as a receptionist, Kelly worked in departments as varied as shipping, accounting, production and retail to hone her skills in all aspects of the fashion industry. She became the face of St. John at 15 and by the time she became CEO and Creative Director, she had helped build St. John into a $400 million brand. One of the most essential values instilled in Kelly by her parents and her many years at St. John was to never compromise on quality. In addition to her killer business instincts, modern sense of style and impressive list of contacts in the fashion industry, it is this core value that she has brought to Royal Underground: Quality in construction and fabrications, meticulous handwork details and comfort in both fit and feel, which are all key components of the brand.
